Humility:True Greatness-7

Humility: True Greatness by C.J. Mahaney
Chapter 7 For Special Focus
Study and overview by Marc

In this chapter C.J. points us to a couple of habits that can help us to battle pride and put our faith in God's promises. These are not quite daily habits but habits that we should practice often. He encourages us to:

1. Study the attributes of God.
I remember the first time I knowingly personally studied the attributes of God. I was at Georgia College and had so many questions about faith, ministry, grace, Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, people, sin, heaven, hell, freedom, legalism, and the list goes on. I read a couple of books that pointed out certain attributes of God in scripture and I began to come alive. Not that I was at that point being born again, but I began to see for myself the grandure, awesomeness, wonder, grace, and love of God. I knew that this was God's grace in showing me how to be fueled for life and ministry, look to Him, be humbled, be comforted, be alive.

2. Study the doctrines of Grace
Seeing how my salvation is God's work from start to finish is humbling and motivating.

3. Study the doctrine of Sin
To see who we are in Christ and to really trust Him to help us battle pride we must clearly see our sin and His provision.

4. Play Golf
C.J. says that this is very humbling for everyone.

5. Laugh!
It is indeed a great thing to be able to laugh with each other, at each other, and at ourselves. Laughter is best shared with others.
