righteous scheme
Tonight my family and I shared with a group of students and a few adults at Union Baptist Church in Griffin, GA.
My aims were to:
1. help them to see how awesome the gospel really is and how important and fulfilling it is for us to trust Christ for salvation.
2. help them to see how much of a privilege it is to share it with others.
3. help them to see how we will be living this out in Thailand.
I wanted them to know the mighty work, mercy and grace of Jesus. I desired for them to see the beauty of God and His wonderful intervention for us as He defeated sin. I hope they see this.
But my point in writing is not to share with you what I taught them tonight, but what they taught and showed us. After I shared and led them in a few songs with the guitar, Daryl McCard, the youth pastor, let us in on a scheme they had been running. The students of the group had a small group competition to see who could raise the most money for us, "cash for Khon Kaen" is what they called it. The senior high guys won. But I think we all did. Sherry and I were taken off guard and were floored. All of the students raised over $1000 combined for us!! We we retaught that God will indeed supply all of our needs and that He will work in ways we can not see...we did not see this coming. We are very excited about Daryl's and the student's excitement in being a part of our team. "How beautiful is the body of Christ!"
As you read, please know that although we must have the money to leave and are extremely encouraged by the sacrifice of the students, it is the willingness and effort they made, mixed with faith and hope, that will speak long after the money is used on plane tickets. Thanks Union Baptist student ministry!
