When God made the world with all its waterfalls, jungle cats, and hydrangeas and placed people in it, He was not creating out of weakness. God did not need creation to complete Him or make Him happy. He is eternally happy and is never incomplete or lacking. The world was created out of this fullness and happiness. Our redemption comes through this fullness and happiness. Our daily lives are sustained by the eternal delighting God.

“It is no argument of the emptiness or deficiency of a fountain, that it is inclined to overflow.” Jonathan Edwards

Empty fountains cannot flow. An empty God can not either. Well supplied fountains flow and flow and flow. Our self-sufficient God flows and flows and flows with no possibility of ever drying out. That we would be the recipients of His refreshing, life-giving water is all of grace. As we drink, we are filled, as we are being filled we delight in God, the supplier of our needs. This is love from God resulting in praise to God.

“What could God give us to enjoy that would prove Him most loving? There is only one possible answer: Himself!¬†If He withholds Himself from our contemplation and companionship, no matter what else He gives us, He is not loving.” John Piper, Desiring God(pg.48)

As we receive the love of God, through Jesus, we praise Him; we acknowledged His relationship and gift of His Son with joy as unworthy recipients. Our very unworthiness, emptiness, and thirsting for life, love and joy takes us to the fountain of life. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus makes this gift of life possible and draws us in. By faith in our loving Savior and repenting from homemade broken fountains and cisterns, we drink from the waters of our eternally happy Father.

“…God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance..” Romans 2:4

Our unworthiness is clearly defined by His worthiness. We see how unholy we are when we see His holiness. But we MARVEL that he would call us sons and daughters…and rightly so!!!! Our “worthiness” is now clearly defined by Christ’s worthiness. And so we praise God!

In love He predestined us to adoption as sons…to the praise of the glory of His grace” Ephesians 1:4-6

God is…”to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed.” 2 Thessalonians 1:10

That God is full of overflowing joy, and has brought me into this joy through Jesus results in praise and gives me strength to go and love others. And this loving of others is part of the design and reach of true love and amazing grace, for the praising of God.

“…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10
