Mars Hill Day Care (Chiang Mai, Thailand) from marc lewis on Vimeo.

Kosharah Dunham shares about Mars Hill Day Care in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Would you watch this and pray? I posted this so you could see what another ministry is doing in Thailand. Her father, Tim Dunham planted a international church and this day care is one of the arms of the church. Tim is the Acts 29 Thailand International Director.

Chic-fil-Awesome could and should go GLOBAL

What if Chic-fil-a went global, or at least expanded to Khon Kaen, Thailand? What if on the Chic-fil-A restaurant locater page there was a country tab? What if in doing so, they took a great business to the ends of the earth with a great platform to declare the gospel to other folks in the industry by being a great company, building relationships and sharing life? It could be done! It's time for that Christian sandwich to go great commission....OK chicken sandwich, but you know what I'm sayin'.  Are their any takers in the Chic-fil-A fraternity? I am sure this has been thought of before, but what's the delay? The resources, operators, and employees are awesome...not to mention the Chicken sandwich. The goal would not be to make all the money that I believe would be made, but to make a global difference by having a business presence in the local communities all over the world. I know Truett believes Proverbs 22:1, it's on his home page,

"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold."

I think Chic-fil-A could have a global good name and exalt the Name that is above all names in doing so.

I mean come on, Sizzler is in Thailand...do you remember that place? Much could be learned from KFC and McDonald's and Pizza Hut.

Yes, much of this desire began selfishly as I settle for KFC's spicy drum sticks...that are good. But as I longed for Truett's sandwich I began to think about how well they could actually do in so many ways.

I know the hot-brown and pot pie may never make it out of the country due to airport security and health codes of other nations, but the trademark sandwich and lemonade could and I submit that it should.

The cows are not so cute here and rumor has it they are afraid of heights but they need the work and want to live too.

What are the people doing in the picture below you ask? They are waiting for Chic-fil-a to go global and bring them some Chic-fil-awesome.

Doing Missions when Dying (to self) is Gain. (chicken dance FAIL?)

So who doesn't know the chicken dance? If you have not been to a wedding reception, skating rink or a big sports game in the past 30 years you may not know what it is. Regardless, there are some law students at North Eastern University that now know what it is.

Last night as one of our summer missions teams from the states went out on campus to meet students they had the opportunity to meet the entire freshmen class of law students. On the spot they were asked to do something funny or do a quick show. The three guys did not know what to do but pulled the chicken dance out of their back pockets. They gave it a go but the students sitting cross legged in orderly rows on the floor did not know how to respond. It was, in their mind, an epic FAILure. Even my staff partner hung his head in disbelief. The students did not laugh, but looked somber and sat still. Our guys pretty much felt stupid, smiled, said good-bye and left the room.

Today, six of the law men were spotted by the same mission team and were asked to come play ping-pong at our student center right off of campus. They agreed and came. We had a great time with them talking, playing and laughing. When I brought up the previous nights chicken dance with the law students...they laughed pretty hard.

So...here's to you summer missions teams all over the world who are dying to your pride and doing the chicken dance and feeling stupid....let's give our lives away, even in ways that seem ridiculous....in order to gain an ear for the gospel of Jesus Christ to be declared!

Pray for these six students: Guy, Da, Tdom, Nung, K, Fluke

May God open up their hearts to his glorious great news!

A book that will shake you…unless you have it all together.

I finished David Platt's book Radicallast night and am very glad I read it. My plan in writing today was to summarize the book and encourage you to go out and get it and then I saw that Platt had a short video explaining the purpose of the book. So I will let him share about his book with you in the video below.  As a missionary I am reminded that radical Christianity is not defined by how far away you live from friends and family but by how much you love and obey Jesus' commands. May I stop picking and choosing which commands of Jesus I think are important and see that they all are. May I stop categorizing his commands according to my comforts. May I see who I am in Jesus and reach the world for Him by the power of the Holy Spirit as one who is in love with his Good Shepherd who was slain for His sheep.

"What does it mean to be a 1st century follower? Is it any different than being a follower in the 21st century? Listen as author Dr. David Platt shares the passion behind his new book, Radical: Taking Back your Faith from the American Dream. The radical things Jesus said 2000 years ago still apply to Christians today. Denying ourselves, giving up everything, and loving Him above all others is a radically different way to live. But it is the only way to truly live. We were created for more than a middle class existence. We were meant to count for His glory."

Privilege vs. Sacrifice?? (video 4:10s)

privilege and sacrifice from marc lewis on Vimeo.

I was asked to share briefly about privilege and sacrifice to help students as they consider missions.

This short video is the fruit of thinking on the different aspects of sacrifice and privilege and how they are different yet go together for every believer.

When I refer to the privilege that Jesus had as our redeemer it has less to do with us and more to do with his divine joy in doing the will of the father.

The small crying in the background is coming from my 3 year old daughter Sophie Mei. I made this in our little hotel room during our Thai Summer Project in Chaing Mai, Thailand right at bedtime in order to send this out to my friend.

How to financially support the Lewis family in Thailand

I have made this post for those of you interested in helping us share our lives and the gospel in Thailand through financial giving. Please consider getting your church, sunday school classes, small groups, schools and families involved with us and the mission here. We love interacting with the global church and are greatly encouraged to know about your lives as well. We know that God may not lead you to give financially to us, but please pray for us!

Six minute glimpse into our ministry:
Retreat video from January 2010 with our students and some friends from Australia. The majority of the Thais you see in this video are not believers.

Friends Forever (video/slideshow 6:07) from marc lewis on Vimeo.
