Leaders Who Last

In his book, Leaders Who Last, 70 year old Dave Kraft shares his past and current leadership practices. He clearly unpacks the following quote in a very helpful and encouraging way....

"The successful leader is a humble, God-dependent, team-playing servant of God with the vision, calling, gifts, and abilities to bring others into the race"

Here are some of the thoughts that kept pushing me wanting to read and invest more into this book:

"Priorities are like the banks of a river. They protect the river of a person's passion and purpose so that his or her energy is not dissipated all over the landscape."

"If priorities protect my purpose and passion, then pacing prolongs it."

"A leader is a person who is dissatisfied with the way things are. He has a God-given burden, a vision, and a call to see something different. He wants to see something change, to build a new future."

"A vision is usually birthed in isolation, but it is most effectively communicated and implemented in community."

"A truly effective leader operates in a network of supportive and complementary relationships."

"A leader influences many by investing in a few and letting those few influence the rest."

Two of the bents that Kraft takes that is missing in so many leadership books is the need to spend time with the right people as we focus on training leaders and 2. the gifting and calling of spiritual leaders.

I recommend this book to all my Campus Outreach staff family...Kraft was a Navigator, and as you know we are highly influenced by them....so much so I am surprised we have not been charged with idea plagiarism.

I also recommend this book to all youth pastors and pastors, especially when it comes to equipping and empowering the right people to best help you live out your God given vision for all the people.

Again, I find it best to just let Mark Driscoll and Dave Kraft summarize the book in the video below.

(unofficial) What is the Gospel Study Guide

I made and used this study guide with our 2010 summer missions team in Thailand. We just completed the last week and it was a great time of worshipful discussion.

The book What is the Gospel by Greg Gilbert is free in Amazon's Kindle and Apples ibooks store until the end of July.

Final TSP update

Thanks for praying and keeping up with us. We closed out the TSP last night and sent the students home on two busses. It was an awesome two weeks and I believe that God was glorified.

Five students professed faith in Christ during these two weeks. Pray for the other 20. I believe that the 30 believers that joined us are walking away with a stronger faith and some tools to help them drink deeply from the Word. Thank you for your prayers, giving, and encouragement.

Love, Marc, Sherry and Sophie Mei
