Biblical Parenting 2
Our children are worshippers. They were made to worship, it is the way God designed them and it is exactly what they do. Our calling is to "faithfully hold out for them the wonder and beauty and marvel of the character of the God for whom they are made". We are not to polish or feed the idols of our kids. Ted Tripp does an awesome job of holding out to us a biblical approach that will help our kids to be fully satisfied in God. This is much more than just taking our children to church and making sure we don't cuss or do anything that is not morally right. Parenting is much more proactive than that. This is an exhortation for parents to "create" a God saturated atmosphere that fights the idols that want to steal our children's soul and joy. We do this by living and talking about our glorious God as we trust in Him to move, work, and show them and us that He is better and worthy of our total surrender. I know God can do this as we trust in Him. It calls for much faith and work. But I know that God not only commands but also enables us. I want Sophie and our future children to know God and be dazzled by Him, and I want the primary place for this to happen in our home and through our family as we live in light of our biblical parental callings. I love how Tripp encourages us to not linger on our lack of meeting up to this high calling but to turn to God for assistance, He holds us. I am thankful for what I learned tonight.
